OTTAWA, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced Tuesday that he will travel to Mexico City from Sept. 18 to 19 to deepen the two countries' partnership and reinforce North American prosperity.

According to a news release on the prime minister's official website, Carney will meet with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum to elevate and broaden bilateral relationship, with a focus on security, infrastructure, investment, energy and trade.

The two leaders met at the G7 Summit in Canada's Kananaskis in mid-June. Canada's new government is diversifying and strengthening its trade relationships with reliable partners, said the release.

Canadian trade and investment with Mexico are steadily growing, with nearly 56 billion Canadian dollars (about 41 billion U.S. dollars) in two-way merchandise trade last year, according to the release.
