NEW YORK, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar appreciated in late trading on Tuesday as market participants await a slew of economic data.
The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, increased 0.22 percent at 94.5220.
In late New York trading, the euro was down to 1.1529 U.S. dollars from 1.1560 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound decreased to 1.3593 dollars from 1.3609 U.S. dollars in the previous session. The Australian dollar was unchanged at close at 0.7353 U.S. dollar.
The U.S. dollar bought 113.66 Japanese yen, higher than 113.32 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar rose to 0.9308 Swiss franc from 0.9272 Swiss franc, and it was down to 1.2462 Canadian dollars from 1.2479 Canadian dollars.
Investors will pay close attention to economic highlights this week, including U.S. Consumer Price Index data on Wednesday and retail sales data on Friday.
